Valley of the Vikings nominated for "Kinderspiel des Jahres 2019"
This year we're doubly pleased: Valley of the Vikings invites children ages 6 years and older to an adventurous contest, and has been nominated for "Kinderspiel des Jahres 2019 ("Children's Game of the Year 2019")." With Barnyard Bunch, another of our games impressed the Jury "Kinderspiel des Jahres 2019" ("jury of Children's Game of the Year") , and is on the "Empfehlungsliste" ("recommended list").
In Valley of the Vikings, players find themselves in a Viking village for the annual barrel bowling contest. As well as skill and luck, players also need to be clever: Who will use the ball to knock down the right barrels, and cleverly position their Vikings on the dock? Valuable gold coins can be captured. But if you're unlucky, you might fall in the water and go away empty-handed. The player who captures the most gold coins by the end of the game is the winner, and can now call themselves chief of Viking Valley.
The Jury "Kinderspiel des Jahres" ("jury of Children's Game of the Year") supports their decision: "Valley of the Vikings is an exciting raid […]. The tactical considerations when fighting for a position on the dock develop with increasing experience, and guarantee long-term playing fun." The Jury "Kinderspiel des Jahres 2019" ("jury of Children's Game of the Year") also praises the game designers Wilfried and Marie Fort: "The way the game designer pair engages a mixture of both skill and tactical thinking is as unique as it is novel."
The exciting bowling contest is made up of many different elements, which carry players off into the world of the Vikings. In particular the impressive XXL game board, and the 3D ships, makes children and adults from 6 to 99 into real Viking fans. The illustrations by Maximilian Meinzold impress with their attention to detail.
Barnyard Bunch is recommended by the Jury "Kinderspiel des Jahres"
Barnyard Bunch is a cooperative dice and running game for children ages 4 years and older. Players need lucky dice rolls and good cooperation to make sure that no animals run away from the farm. It was created by game designer Justin Lee, and illustrated by Anna-Lena Kühler.
Last year, our tactical matching game Dragon's Breath won the title "Kinderspiel des Jahres 2018 ("Children's Game of the Year 2018")." This makes us all the more pleased that we could once again impress the Jury "Kinderspiel des Jahres" ("the jury of Children's Game of the Year"). We're now anxiously awaiting June 24, 2019, and crossing our fingers for the "Kinderspiel des Jahres 2019" ("Children's Game of the Year 2019") award ceremony in Hamburg.
